African American History

The African American History is basically the history of the ethnic group of the African American communities, also called Black Americans. The African American History is the history of the African slaves transported to the United States from West and Central Africa.

The African American History is as old as the history of slavery in the United States. The African American History actually began with the Slave Trade. So, the African American History is associated with the history of black Africans who were transported to America in the 16th to 19th centuries.

According to the African American History, the ancestors of the African-Americans were the black African slaves who were transported to North America from West and Central Africa between 1619 and 1807. However, the African American History began soon after European colonizing in America. The early records of the African American History reveal that the Portuguese were the first to transport slaves out of Africa in 1442.

The African American History articulates that with the growth of slave trade eight distinct slave-trading regions developed in Africa. These eight regions were West Central Africa, Bight of Benin, Bight of Biafra, Gold Coast, Senegambia, South East Africa, Upper Guinea, and Windward Coast. The West Central Africa was the largest source of slaves.

The population of slaves was made up of the various ethnic groups including the Bakongo, Mbundu, Yourba, Fon, Nupe, Ibo, Wolof, Fulbe, and Serer amongst others. These ethnic groups were usually sold to European traders by powerful coastal or interior states in exchange for European goods such as textiles and firearms.

The American Revolution (1775-1783) and the American Civil War (1861–1865) were two important episodes in the African American History. The American Civil War (1861–1865) ended up with the victory of the North and slavery was completely abolished in the United States. The new powerful United States was born from the ashes of the Civil War.
